Thanksgiving

Pentecostal Tabernacle Church Celebrates Thanksgiving

In his stirring letter to Timothy, Paul wrote in 2 Timothy chapter 3 about the last days and perilous times. Paul listed eighteen definite topics which verifies the last days and perilous times. That list is:

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, and lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.

A complete expositional lesson can be, and should be taught on each of the listed topics, but I will briefly discuss only one, "unthankful."

The Bible is replete in encouraging the people of God in both the Old and the New Testaments to be thankful, and be filled with a heart of thanksgiving. Perhaps the most oft quoted Bible verse on the subject is Psalms 100:4 which says, "enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name."

I ask the Pentecostal Tabernacle Church Family to follow my lead in being thankful for all the benefits and blessings the Lord Jesus has bountifully blessed us with. Space is not available in this article to mention everything that we have been blessed with but allow me to mention some of them.

A Happy Church Family. I am thankful for the spirit of unity that exists in our church. The love, care and concern for each other is a characteristic in our church that is precious in the sight of the Lord! For these blessings we are thankful!

Anointed Church Services: We meet three times per week for prayers, praises and preaching; on Sunday at 10:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. Then Tuesday at 7:30 P.M. Every church service is unique but every church service has the undeniable presence of God! For these blessings we are thankful!

Church Growth: Seven years ago when Pentecostal Tabernacle Church joined my wife and I, approximately fifty was the attendance. In the ensuing seven years we have experience a 150% attendance growth! Included in church growth is the financial blessings on the church. Deficits were overcome; mortgage was retired; the building fund grew and a strong and consistent commitment of giving to missions. For these blessings we are thankful!

New Beginnings: With a generous combination of the above, our church is on the threshold of a new and exciting page in our history. In August we purchased the land and the new church facility on Spring Avenue. With this purchase we have twelve beautiful and landscaped acres in a prime area of the city; a building that is less than five years old (practically new) with a total of 12,000 square feet of floor space. There is an abundance of room and land for future growth and expansion too. However above all else we cannot forget to be thankful for:

1. Being forgiven by the grace of God!

2. The revelation of the Mighty God in Christ Jesus; Jesus IS LORD OF ALL!

3. Our sins being remitted by Jesus when baptized in His name!

4. The personal infilling of the baptism of the Holy Ghost which is always accompanied with speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance!

5. The Bible: The book that is the anointed and infallible word of God!

The lyrics of an old but heartwarming song precisely expresses the Spirit of Thanksgiving that is in the soul of Pentecostal Tabernacle Church:

Just wanted to tell you I'm thankful for all that you have done

For the stars and the moonlight and the setting sun

When my work down here is through

I'm coming home to be with you

Just wanted to tell you I'm thankful that's all

When I feel discouraged

You're there to see me through

Of All the friends I've known

There is no one like you

All My needs you supply

Lord it makes me want to cry

Just wanted to tell you

I'm thankful that's all
